Lamott Summary: In Lamott’s article Shitty First Drafts, she explains that everyone should write three different drafts to their papers. The first which is just like a bad draft that no one else has to see or read. The second being one is slightly better that you fix up. And the final draft is were you check everything out and make sure its perfect.

King Summary: In Kings article What Writing Is, King mainly talks about how we can us telepathy in our writing.

Goodman Summary: In Goodman’s article Calming The Inner Critic And Getting To Work, she talks about how to become a confident writer. She says that doing this will make your writing good. She also talks about blocking out bad ideas when writing.

Haruf Summary: In Haruf’s article To See Your Story More Clearly, Start by Pulling the Wool Over Your Own Eyes, He talks about what different things writes do when they write and how they are strange but they help the writers.

Sontag Summary: In Sontag’s article Directions: Write, Read, Rewrite. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 as Needed, she talks about how every time you rewrite a paper it can always get better no matter how good you think it is the first time.

Diaz Summary: In Becoming A Writer, Diaz talks about he took an entire decade to write one piece. And also talks to us about the stuggles through it.

Using These Essays: Throughout all of these writers I do not see many similarities. I don’t see any common metaphors, they all have there own ways of explaining things. I do think that they are grappling with rules because they know that it is alright to do so.

MM:

1.     First it makes me think more about my own writing and how I can make it better. Second I like what King said about placing your mind somewhere else. Last, I found that what Haruf said about always putting meaning into your writing.

2.     I don’t think that much has changed yet about my writing after reading this, but I think that it will over time.

Reflection: I think that these were all very interesting articles to read because it gave me a new view writing and news ways to go about writing a paper and thinking about it.

Harris summary: The main point that Harris was trying to make, is that multiple drafts can really help you to have better success at a paper. Harris thinks that the more you revise a paper the better it will become in the end.

Harris Response: I think that I am a one draft writer because when I write, I will always write the whole paper through then go back and make small minor changes. Harris says this could be bad because if you only write one draft, you may not get all the research that you need for the final product to be great.

Harris Reflection: Overall I think that this was a good article for us to read, and it really made me think about how writing more than one draft could be very beneficial to my writing.

Ransom Summary: Ransom started off by saying that to become a good writer takes practice that it just doesn’t come naturally. She talked about the study that Berkenkotter conducted on skilled and unskilled writers. She concluded that she was best at writing under a time constraint.

Some other questions to consider:

1.The thing that most interested me in this chapter was the study of your own writing habits and how you write. I think that researcher still have not learned that there is more than one correct way to write, which I think we will show in this next paper because all of our writing styles are different.

2. Yes I do find that when I write ideas down they come to me easier and then will flow better in my paper. I don’t think that I have ever tried writing for exploration to come up with new ideas.

Ransom Reflection: I think that this was a good article to read since we will be writing a paper like this one this week.

Tomlinson summary: In Tomlinson’s article Turning, tying, training texts, she talks about the eight different types of metaphors that people use when they write papers and also when they revise them.

1.     I think that Tomlinson says this because she believes that metaphors can not always be trusted in all situations.

2.     If you just focus on the metaphor, it will prevent you from being creative or making your writing stand out.

3.     I always use the sculpting metaphor in my writing. I feel like when I write I just have to write the whole thing before I go back and make corrections or look at my mistakes.

4.     I think that she did maybe go a little to far because no matter what you do you can always go back and change what you have written.

5.     I think that I do use some of these techniques to revise my papers, but usually I am not really think of the process that I do it in.

Reflection: I think that this was a very interesting article to read because of all the different metaphors that she used to show us how people write.

Berkenkotter summary: In Berkenkotter’s article Decisions and Revisions: The Planning Strategies of a Public Writer, she talks about different wrting processes and she explains how they work.

Murray summary: In Murray’s article Response of a Laboratory Rat- or Being Protocoled he talks to us about his writing process and how it works.

Questions:

1.     I think that my writing style does compare to the way that Murray writes. I do not think that I as good as organizing my thoughts as he is though.

2.     I would explain Murray’s audience as very formal. When I am writing I don’t think of my audience often, usually I just write to get it done.

3.     She payed closer attention to planning and revision. She said when you revise it gives people more room to improve on there work.

AEI 1: When I write I spend most time thinking, and then I get my thoughts down on paper. I don’t think that my level of experience with writing is very high. I think that I am not very experienced because I do not spend a lot of time on it.

MM: What I learned from reading this is that you need to pay closer attention to the way you write to get better at it.

Reflection: I thought that both of these articles were interesting and useful for us to read.

Blog 6

Summary: In Kleine’s article he writes about different research types. He is doing research on how people do research for papers to get ideas and information. He interviews a lot of researchers to see if what he believes is true.

Questions:

1.     I think that what Kleine is describing is very much like I research, I feel like I focus on just the basics rather going into more detail.

3. It seems that the researchers do not focus so much on sources, but they focus more on what they learn and gain form reading it.

4. I think that this will change the way I research. I think that it will make me look deeper into what I am reading. I also think that follow his model would be a good thing to do.

Reflection: I think that he made some good points and I think that this goes good with what we are talking about in class.

Chapter 2 intro summary: In this chapter it talks about how writing is a process that we put together to become a whole. It also talks about how when we find the best way to write that it will come easier to us.

Chapter 2 reflection: Overall I thought this was a good chapter for us to read because it talk about how we can become better writers.
